1. Requirements and conditions

To obtain an ultralight student pilot permit in Canada, you must:

1. Be at least 16 years old

2. Have proof of citizenship, such as a valid passport or birth certificate.

3. Submit a Civil Aviation Medical Declaration Form <Available here>

3. Theoretical training

PassionAir Canada offers a comprehensive 20-hour theoretical course for aspiring pilots.

The course runs on weekday evenings and weekends to accommodate different schedules, and individual sessions are also available.

4. Practical training

PassionAir Canada offers practical, personalized and tailor-made training courses for ultralight pilots, certified by Transport Canada, as well as for free flight enthusiasts.

Thanks to the flexibility of our offers and the presence of experienced instructors who offer personalized supervision and advice, obtaining a pilot's license, or libertist license, has never been easier.

Practical training: Between $2,500 and $4,000

It depends on your choice of ultralight device.

5. The pre-solo exam

The PassionAir Canada Pre-Solo Exam is an incredibly important step in the learning to fly process.

This is a 50-question multiple-choice test that delves into the regulations, techniques and concepts of flight.

This exam not only ensures that you know the basics of flying, but also that you are confident and comfortable in the cockpit before taking the controls alone in your aircraft.

6. Transport Canada review

The ULTRA (for ULM pilots) or HAGAR (for libertarians) exam from Transport Canada is a necessary step.

This is an 80-question multiple-choice exam that covers the rules and regulations of flight, as well as special techniques and concepts.

In order to pass this exam, you must first have completed at least 50% of the prescribed flight hours.

ULTRA / HAGAR exam: $35

7. The solo

The solo is the moment you've been preparing for, the pinnacle of your racing career so far.

After completing all the necessary prerequisites, you are ready to fly solo.

This consists of two hours of flight with 10 touch and go included. During these two hours you will have full control of your plane.

8. The ultralight pilot license

Becoming a microlight or free flight pilot is an enriching experience.

Once the conditions are met (16 years and older), submit your documents to Transport Canada and wait for your permit.

Every learner progresses at their own pace, but with perseverance and practice, you will reach your goal. Good luck!

9. Radio operator certificate

In just a few hours of reading, you can get your restricted radio operator certificate, valid for life! This is essential if you want to use your aeronautical radio, and the cost is really cheap.

10. Go fly alone!
