The PassionAir Canada Team

Familiarization

It all starts with familiarization. We introduce you to our fantastic ULM pendulum, this flying machine that will soon become your best friend in the air. You will take a tour, we will show you the cords and buttons, and soon, you will feel at home aboard this mechanical bird.

Flight preparation

Next, we move on to pre-flight preparation. We teach you how to make sure everything is working perfectly, that the controls are operational, and that you are ready to take off safely. Safety is a top priority for us.

Additional checks

We show you all the controls of the ULM in detail. You will learn how to maneuver the machine, how it reacts to the controls, and how to use them effectively. You will quickly become a pro at the controls.

Rolling

Taxiing is like the opening dance before the main show. You're taught how to maneuver on the ground, how to taxi on the runway, and how to position yourself for takeoff with confidence.

Take off

Once everything is ready, comes the magical moment of takeoff. We guide you through this incredible experience of leaving the earth and rising into the air. Fasten your seatbelt, man, it's going to be a bumpy ride!

In straight and level flight

Once in the air, we'll show you how to maintain a straight and stable flight. You'll learn how to control the microlight to stay on track in the vast Canadian skies.

Climb

If you've always dreamed of reaching for the stars, we'll show you how to get to the top safely. Up there, the world is at your feet.

Descent

Of course, what goes up must come down. We teach you how to descend smoothly, without jolts, for a safe landing.

Turns

Turns are fun, right? We show you how to turn left and right, bank the microlight and maneuver with ease in the air.

Flight for range and endurance

If you have longer flight plans, we show you how to manage fuel and flight time for extended adventures. With a little planning, you could explore the endless horizons.

Slow flight

Sometimes you have to slow down. We teach you how to fly slowly safely, without the risk of stalling.

Dropouts

Stalls can happen, but don't panic. We'll show you how to recover quickly and regain control of your microlight.

Tendrils

Spins are like a ride on a merry-go-round, but in a microlight. We teach you how to manage and avoid them to fly safely.

Spiral dives

If you want to add some adrenaline to your flight, we show you how to deal with spiral dives and return to stable flight.

Landing

After all these adventures in the air, it's time to come back down to earth gently. We show you how to approach the runway and land the microlight safely.

The track laps

Laps are like doing laps in a car, but in the air. We guide you through each step so you can become a pro at takeoff and landing.

Transport Canada Requirements

Well, ready to take flight in the world of ultralight aviation?

Before you jump headfirst into the sky, there are a few requirements you need to know, and they're required by Transport Canada.

These prerequisites are here to ensure that you are ready to take the controls safely. So, before you take off, make sure you meet these essential requirements.

The requirements for obtaining an ultralight aeroplane (ULM) pilot permit in Canada are as follows:

  • * Age: Applicant must be 16 years of age or older.

  • * Medical Fitness: The applicant must hold a Category 4 medical certificate validating the Ultralight Pilot Permit. If the applicant meets the requirements of the Civil Aviation Medical Declaration, he or she is considered to have met Category 4 medical standards. To maintain the validity of the permit, the applicant must obtain a new Category 1, 3 or 4 medical certificate.

  • * Knowledge: The applicant must have completed at least 20 hours of theoretical training on ultralight aviation.

  • * Experience: In the 24 months preceding the application, the applicant must have accumulated, on board an ultralight aircraft and under the direction and supervision of an ultralight aircraft flight instructor, at least 10 hours of dual-control flight.

  • * Skills: Within 12 months prior to applying for a permit, the applicant must submit a letter from an ultralight aircraft flight instructor stating that the applicant has demonstrated the ability to perform normal and emergency manoeuvres appropriate to the ultralight aircraft used for the training program, with a level of skill equivalent to that of the holder of a pilot permit - ultralight aircraft.

  • * Credits: There are credits available for applicants holding other pilot licenses, reducing some requirements based on their previous experience.

  • * Powered parachutes: If the applicant has experience on powered parachutes, the permit issued will be limited to powered parachutes. This restriction may be lifted when the applicant obtains the necessary experience on an ultralight aeroplane other than a powered parachute. In the case of an ultralight pilot permit restricted to powered parachutes, the flight time requirements are reduced to five hours, and the applicant is exempt from five hours of dual instruction flight time.
